After the Textured Ceilings
We wrote about those 70s ceilings with swooping curves and texturedlines. For a clean modern look, flat smooth ceilings will give your room a timeless feel. But, there are other options to consider with this renovation.
The way we use space in our homes is evolving. Many families are moving away from the original multiple, small roomfloor plans of the homes built with textured ceilings. We enjoy open, multi-use areas in our homes, often removing walls and installing steel beams to create these spaces.
Updating your ceilings to a smooth finish, after removing textured ceilings, provides an opportunity to update other elements. Lighting, for example. In the original multiple, small room floor plans of the era, floor or table lamps were enough to provide adequate light in these spaces.
Increasing lighting and updating the type or style of fixtures will enhance function and create opportunities for multi-purpose use of your rooms. Installing or replacing pot lights, ceiling light fixtures with or withoutfans, and wall sconces are all options.
Other options for finishing your new modern ceiling include:
· modern retexturing;
· painted ceilings;
· new or updated crown molding; and
· refurnishing and remodeling the room.
