The kitchen in this 30 year-old two-storey home needed updating in materials, design and amenities. Removal of the wall, and using an engineered beam for reinforcement, opened up the kitchen to the fireplace and living room. Hardwood flooring was laid to create continuity and flow between the rooms. A kitchen island was installed to reflect the new ways of entertaining and to enrich family meals within busy schedules. The attention to detail and design is shown with the counter to ceiling backsplash feature wall to highlight the range hood. The contemporary style of layering the height and depth of kitchen cabinetry creates visual interest and reflects the care in kitchen layout. Without the wall, the view of the fireplace and feeling of space magnifies the gains made in this kitchen renovation. The homeowners were delighted with the improved function, enjoyment and beauty of their home with the renovation of a single room.
